ITP94 was deployed on a 0.7 m thick ice floe in the Transpolar Drift on October 7, 2019 at 84° 59.7 N, 135° 5.4 E in collaboration with the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expedition from the Russian Research Vessel Federov as a contribution to the Hybrid Arctic/Antarctic Float Observation System (HAFOS). On the same icefloe, a Naval Postgraduate School Arctic Ocean Flux Buoy (AOFB), a Seasonal ice mass balance buoy, a Meteorological sled, Spectral radiometer and AWI snow buoy were also installed. The ITP includes a dissolved oxygen sensor and bio-optical sensors and is operating on a pattern profiling sampling schedule including one full one-way profile between 7 and 760 m depth every 1.5 days.
