Night tow
Night was my absolutely favorite time to photograph science on deck.
Having heard that a net tow would be performed very early in the morning,
I decided to set my alarm so I wouldn't miss it. When I came out on
deck, I was blasted by wind and snow. A storm was whipping up. Even
bundled in my mustang suit, I was freezing during this net tow. Snow
and sleet pelted us on the fantail and the wind was howling.
This
shot captures Carin Ashjian (foreground) and Martha Delaney (background)
as they make notes immediately following the net tow. You can actually
see the falling snow, thanks to the floodlight that was set up on
the fantail. This was the last tow of the day since the storm got
so strong that all science was put on hold.
